Bazaar Arabia shares a list of expected dates for the four-day public and private sector holiday

When is Eid al Adha 2024? Bazaar Arabia shares everything we know about the long weekend for UAE public and private sector workers here.

The post vacation blues are a real thing — and the news that the next public holiday isn’t for months to come could not have helped. The best remedy? Start planning a vacation (or staycation.) Ahead of this year’s public and private sector holidays, Bazaar Arabia shares everything you need to know about Eid al Adha 2024.

What is Eid al Adha?

For Muslims around the world, these days celebrate Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail’s faith and trust in God as well as their obedience to Him.

Muslims honour this event by gathering together and eating meat — usually lamb, mutton or beef.

When is Eid al Adha 2024?

While it has yet to be confirmed Eid al Adha 2024 is expected to land sometime between June 16-19, 2024; approximately 70 days after Eid al Fitr 2024, Eid al Adha 2024 follows the Islamic calendar and is expected to correspond with days 10 to 12 with the Islamic month Dhul Hijjah.

The reason the dates aren’t officially announced until a few days before the confirmed holiday is that the Islamic calendar follows the lunar months and is approximately 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year, hence all public and private sectors holidays are subject to moon sightings.

This means UAE public and private sector workers can expect to have between three to four days off work, with Saturday, June 15; Sunday, June 16; Monday, June 17 and/or Tuesday, June 18 potentially being announced as the holiday dates.
