The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival revealed its Un Certain Regard jury on Thursday, April 25 – and Moroccan director Asmae El Moudir was among the esteemed jurors.
She will join the group alongside French Senegalese director Maïmouna Doucouré, German-Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps, and American critic Todd McCarthy. Presiding over the jury is Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan.
The team is in charge of the awarding prizes for the Un Certain Regard section, which considers movies with unique styles and non-traditional narratives by emerging creators, from a selection of 18 works, including eight debut films.

Asmae, acclaimed for her film The Mother of All Lies, is set to bring her insightful perspective to the jury this year, having previously won the L’oeil d’Or prize for best documentary at Cannes in 2023.

The 2024 edition of the festival will also see other Arab creatives from the industry participating in the event. Moroccan-Belgian actress Lubna Azabal will be assuming the role of president for the Short Film and La Cinef section’s jury, a section that highlights works from film schools.
