Saudi Film Festival Has Officially Kicked Off
Creative communities from all over the Kingdom can enjoy a variety of flicks as the festival, which is on until September 6, has gone completely digital and can be streamed online
The Saudi Film Festival dates back to 2008 and has been a platform for local filmmakers to showcase their work, in order to help them reach both a regional and global audience.
Launched by Ithra in collaboration with the Film Authority of the Saudi Ministry of Culture, the festival will showcase exceptional local films as well as interviews with various filmmakers and workshops. The festival is run by The Culture and Arts Association in Dammam in partnership with the King Abdul Aziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran and is supported by the Ministry of Cultures Film Commission.
The Saudi festivals committee has chosen this year’s jury who will give insight into the selected films alongside valuable input with the filmmakers and the audience. Movie lovers are encouraged and invited to vote online for the films they love the most, as well as movie fanatics are able to hold virtual discussions on their favourite films.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the annual festival will see films screened via YouTube, allowing a wider and larger audience reach.
