Kuwaiti Influencer Fatima Almomen Sentenced To Three Years in Prison
Sources report that the Kuwaiti Misdemeanor Court has handed down an official sentence in the content creator’s case
On August 29, 2023 Kuwaiti fashion influencer Fatima Almomen was detained after being involved in a fatal car crash at the intersection of Al-Soor Street and King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Road in Kuwait. According to an official statement released by the Ministry of Interior of Kuwait, the fatal car accident resulted in two deaths and two injuries.
A Closer Look At The Facts In Fatima Almomen’s Case
On August 30, 2023 CCTV footage of the fatal car crash involving Fatima Almomen leaked on social media, in which Ms. Almomen can be seen running the red light and subsequently crashing into another law-abiding vehicle. Consequently, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior listed ten charges against the 30-year-old fashion influencer, including reckless driving, jumping the red light, and manslaughter.
According to Arab News, despite the theories and rumours that Ms. Almomen had been driving under the influence at the time of the fatal car crash, an official lab report showed no signs of intoxication.
In September, according to the same source, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior ordered that Ms. Almomen be imprisoned “for 10 days as a precautionary measure pending investigation, and to refer her to the Central Prison in preparation for her transfer to the competent court, and to release the vehicle driver’s escort.” The Public Prosecution denied the request for Fatima Almomen’s bail, put forth by the defendant’s lawyer on September 27.
The Court Ruling in Fatima Almomen’s Case
On October 25, 2023 The Kuwaiti Misdemeanor Court pronounced the defendant guilty of manslaughter, sentencing Fatima Almomen to prison for 3 years, according to sources. The judge additionally imposed that the defendant’s driving license be withdrawn for a period of 1 year.
