Alber Elbaz Has Passed Away
The former creative director of Lanvin and founder of AZ Factory died at the age of 59, sources close to the designer report
The fashion industry has lost another creative mastermind, possibly one of the most brilliant ones of our generation, as sources close to Israeli-French designer Alber Elbaz have reported of his untimely passing on Saturday.
According to WWD, Alber’s death was confirmed by Compagnie Financière Richemont, his joint venture partner in AZ Factory, his latest fashion venture; the cause of his death has yet to be publicly announced, but some sources have reported that the cause was covid related.
Alber was 59 years old. Born in Morocco on February 6, 1961 Alber immigrated to Israel with his family when he was in a child, before moving to New York City in 1985 to pursue a career in fashion. He worked notable brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, where he was appointed creative director by Pierre Bergé. He held the post of creative director at Lanvin for some fourteen years before an abrupt departure in 2015; throughout his time at the French maison, he transformed the brand into a celebrated and globally recognised fashion house, whilst also gaining some staunch high-profile fans such as Michelle Obama, Kristen Scott Thomas and Demi Moore.
