From December 2 to 9, luxury women’s fashion designer Gabriela Hearst will donate all net proceeds from her flagship and online stores to Save the Children, a nonprofit organization that supports relief efforts in Yemen.

To support this initiative, the designer will also make her eclectic handbag collection (which is usually accessible by request only) available for purchase online at gabrielahearst.com.

“Save the Children is one of the largest non-profit organizations on the ground in Yemen. The humanitarian crisis has fallen out of media discourse, given the speed of our current news state. The catastrophe is present and needs as much help as possible,” Hearst said in a statement. “For me personally the holiday spirit should be about giving, and this is why we are donating all net proceeds to this important cause. I have deep admiration for the past, present, and future work of Save the Children.”

Yemen has been in the throes of a bloody civil war that has escalated one of the most dire humanitarian crises today. The 2019 Worldwide Threat Assessment found that more than 22 million people in the country (about 75 percent of its population) need humanitarian assistance. Sixteen million lack access to clean drinking water and food, and more than 1 million people suffer from cholera.

Carolyn Miles, the CEO of Save the Children, said in a statement, “Save the Children is working around the clock every day to give the children of Yemen the support they desperately need. I visited the war-torn country earlier this year, and Yemeni children are truly bearing the brunt of this conflict. They suffer from malnutrition and other illnesses, and are missing out on school and childhood. We are incredibly grateful to Gabriela Hearst for making Save the Children’s efforts in Yemen the focus of this campaign. As we enter the season of giving, this is a unique and meaningful way for shoppers to give back and make an impact on the lives of children growing up in the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.”
