Cult Mia Will Soon Launch Cult Causes, A Conscious Consumerism Initiative
Best-loved for bringing global fashion and unique pieces straight to your door Cult Mia’s founder, Nina Brener-Hellmund, shares insight into the online retailer’s new initiative that supports local designers from all over the world — with a sustainable twist…
Founded in 2019, Cult Mia is a unique fashion discovery platform interlaced with multicultural stories and bound together by the pillars of conscious consumerism. The thoughtfully curated selection showcases independent brands, one-of-a-kind designs, and superior craftsmanship from all corners of the globe. Imagine flying to Colombia to pick a bikini for a beach day. Or zipping to Beirut for date night worthy earrings. How about ordering made-to-order dresses from Sweden’s catwalks? Brand scouting from every corner of the globe occurs regularly with emphasis placed on a commitment to quality, a respect for craftsmanship and an aesthetic that can’t be ignored.

Steeped in multiculturalism Cult Mia was founded by Nina Brener-Hellmund who has Mexican roots, was educated between Switzerland and the United States and now runs the company out of the UK.
Having previously worked for the United Nations’ Women and Trade team Nina’s current mission is to provide a platform to shop safe in the knowledge that all products and brands align with the customers’ core values.
Speaking exclusively to team Bazaar she explains, “We connect designers to our global and very engaged audience seeking exactly what the designers offer from a values perspective, as much as the product they sell. Customers typically can’t otherwise engage with these brands: where would they find them, how could they trust their quality, and now with Covid-19, they can’t even travel to some of them.”
So committed is the brand to conscious consumerism, that Cult Mia has recently announced the launch of their latest initiative, Cult Causes.

Set to launch on October 25, Cult Causes ensures that onboarded brands comply with the criteria of being either environmental sustainability, social consciousness, preserving local heritage and female empowerment.
As Nina tells us, “Many brands and platforms today mention that they are values driven. We want to make sure that we are committing to our values and putting our values at the forefront of our shopping experience. This is the driving force behind Cult Causes. We’re now ready to talk the talk and walk the walk.”
A desire to empower the Cult Mia community to shop for a cause is clearly at the core of this latest offering whose lineup includes a selection of Middle Eastern brands sharing the same value proposition.
Featured are brands such as Lebanese Sarah’s Bags, where underprivileged women are given the opportunity to stitch, bead and embroider their way to an empowered life of purpose and financial independence.

“When people think about shopping locally, especially in emerging countries, they think of tourist shops and stereotypical cultural finds. Shopping in Mexico means sombreros and ponchos. Funnily enough, if someone asks me about what I’m wearing, it’s never my high street boots, but it’s always about my handmade enamel earrings from Oaxaca,” says Nina. “I used to have to disappoint and respond saying that you have to travel to Mexico to get these earrings. Now I can point you to Cult Mia. We’re creating this authentic destination shopping experience that lifts up local production, without the travel.”
