For some, the first Monday in May is the 6th. For the fash-pack however, the first Monday in May is something of an entirely different and highly anticipated nature: The 2019 Met Gala. With the arrival of the “Fashion Oscars” comes with the return of an ambiguously fabulous theme, centric this year to Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay, “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. It will come as no surprise, given the theme, that fashions biggest night out will be chaired by Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, but with the theme embodying a more cryptic versatility than say 2016’s tech defined “Manus x Machina”, or 2013’s ode to “Punk”, who, what, where when and how will fashion’s MVP’s interpret the flamboyant theme?
Nostalgic prints, gaudy colours, volumous ruffles, kitsch cuts, exaggerated embellishments, playful styling and ironic accessories – here’s what the BAZAAR team desire to see swirling, twirling and sashaying down the red carpet.
