Italian luxury powerhouse Gucci has been crowned the world’s hottest brand as per the second instalment of global fashion search platform Lyst’s influential quarterly industry round-up for 2019. The iconic brand has reclaimed its position at the very top of the fashion world for the fifth time in two years; boasting an impressive 20% revenue growth from the last quarter to forge past reigning champion Off-White.
The title comes as no surprise, given the momentum the brand has maintained since Alessandro Michele unveiled its pivotal new direction in Gucci’s Fall / Winter 2015-2016 shows. Season after season, the centenarian fashion house began delivering highly original, ultra-luxe, vintage-inspired collections which catered to the ultimate fashion geek; shifting the very notion of luxury to unleash a global cultural revolution. In the same spirit of innovation, 2019 saw Gucci unveil new technology which enabled customers to virtually try on sneakers whilst its prolific Creative Director was announced co-chair for the Met Gala – factors which boosted global sales and social media metrics to catapult the brand back to the very top of the industry.
Luxury streetwear maestro, Off-White came in second place; creating a buzz with Virgil Abloh’s penchant for the unexpected having designed Serena Williams’ custom-made Nike outfits for the French Open as well as dropping an affordable collaboration with IKEA. Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga, sitting at third, has claimed the title of the fastest-growing brand in couture and leather goods whilst Pierpaolo Picciolo’s acclaimed contemporary vision places Valentino in fourth place. Prada claims the final spot in the top 5 of the round-up with its major sustainability initiatives paving the way for a lucrative increase in both revenue and buzz.
