De Beers is making it easier to resell or buy pre-owned diamonds with confidence.
The diamond company has just announced a new partnership with CIRCA, a global buyer of pre-owned fine diamond jewellery and watches, which will use diamond detection equipment to find out whether a resold diamond is legitimate.
Educational services in Asia, Europe and the United States will be provided to help the industry improve on determining that the diamonds in vintage pieces are real, natural diamonds.
“De Beers Group detection equipment can provide confidence by authenticating that each of the diamonds Circa buys are natural," explained Jonathan Kendall, president of De Beers Group Industry Services.

There's an increasing demand from consumers now for proof that diamonds are ethically and sustainably sourced. A recent study by YouGov revealed that nine per cent of millennials believe that ethics are the single most important factor when it comes to buying or receiving an engagement ring.
Many jewellery houses, like De Beers, are working towards creating a more sustainable industry. Some brands are choosing to work with laboratory-grown diamonds to avoid using blood diamonds in an effort to have a more ethical and sustainable footprint. Buying pre-owned or vintage pieces is another favoured method for improving sustainability.
