DXB Issues Travel Advisory Amid UAE’s Adverse Weather Conditions

Passengers are urged to allow for extra travel time to the airport, and brace for flight delays and reschedules

With heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected to hit the UAE on Thursday, May 2, Dubai International Airport (DXB) released a travel advisory to all passengers who will be traveling in the upcoming days.

On social media platform X (formally Twitter), DXB urged passengers to check the status of their flight with their airlines before arriving at the airport. For those whose flights are still operational, passengers are advised to allow for extra travel time to the airport, and to use the Dubai Metro where possible, which is currently open until 5 am this Friday.

The Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday announced that metro times will be extended on Wednesday, May 1 and Thursday, May 2, to facilitate quicker and easier transportation to and from the airport.

DXB also urged travellers to make use of smart-apps to gain real-time traffic updates, and plan their commute accordingly.

“With unsettled weather forecasted for tomorrow, we advise travellers who are flying out of DXB and DWC to plan,” a spokesperson for Dubai Airports said in a statement.

The travel advisory comes after the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued a warning regarding unstable weather conditions expected in the UAE this week. The statement details “convective clouds with rainfall of different intensities over scattered areas of the country, with a significant decrease in temperatures,” on Thursday, while “a chance of some convective clouds formation maybe associated with rainfall” is anticipated for Friday, May 3.

In light of the inclement weather, Emirates airline also released a statement to passengers, recommending them to allow for extra travel time to the airport, and to use the Dubai metro. Emirates’ sister carrier, flydubai, also released a statement echoing the same sentiments.

On Thursday morning, Emirates advised passengers to brace for delays as some of their flights have been rescheduled.
