10 Videos of The UAE’s Heavy Rain, Lightning and Storms (May 2)
From the Burj Khalifa engulfed in lightning and clouds to wet driving conditions in Abu Dhabi residents took to social media in the early hours of Thursday morning to share clips of the storm
It was another wet morning for the residents of Abu Dhabi and Dubai as the UAE woke up to more rain. While not nearly as intense as April 16’s storm, many encountered difficult driving conditions and washed out roads.
The NCM reported moderate to heavy rain over parts of Abu Dhabi and Ras Al-Khaimah. Dubai police encouraged residents to avoid beaches, valleys, and areas prone to flooding. A video was also shared on their official X account (on the platform formerly known as Twitter) detailing the movements of Thursday’s storm.
From the video, it appears Thursday’s storm will mostly affect the UAE in the morning, tapering off in the early afternoon.
Long-term residents reported that the rain was unlike anything they had seen in their years of living in the Emirate, excluding April 2024’s storm.
Storm chasers grabbed their cameras eager to capture bolts of lightning in the sky.
While the intense weather conditions were not nearly as severed as April 16’s storm, residents still took to social media to share video clips of the rain and lightning.

Heaviest Rain in The UAE in 75 Years: A New Record Was Set in April 2024
Stormy weather with thunder, rain, and hail hit the UAE in the early hours of Tuesday, April 16 with long-term residents of the country wondering if the showers were unprecedented.
UAE authorities confirmed that the downpours from late Monday, April 15 through Tuesday night were the heaviest in 75 years, surpassing any recorded precipitation since data collection began in 1949.
The weather bureau recorded the highest rainfall in the Khatm Al Shakla area in Al Ain, reaching 254 mm in less than 24 hrs.
The Emirates encountered numerous challenges due to the severe weather conditions, yet officials and citizens united to prioritise the safety of everyone.
Unstable weather conditions impacted the country from Monday, April 15 due to an extension of a “low surface pressure,” the NCM reported. Two waves of unstable weather moved across the country on April 16.
