Montblanc Wishes The UAE A Happy Birthday With A Timepiece Like No Other

The German luxury brand marks the 50th anniversary of the nation with a watch that befits such a momentous occasion

A special birthday demands a special watch, and this new piece from Montblanc is exactly that. For the 50th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates this year, Montblanc proudly unveils a masterful and elegant timepiece that – fittingly for an internationally minded country such as the UAE – has a truly global outlook.

Limited to 71 pieces in homage to the UAE’s formation in 1971, the stunning Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum LE 71 is a world timer watch that shows all 24 time zones around the globe at the same time.

Once set with the pusher at 8 o’clock, the wearer can glance at the highly legible 24-hour disc around the outer edge of the dial and quickly observe the correct time in any of the 24 cities, which are written in beautiful Arabic script. Taking centre stage is the city of Dubai, which is marked with a red dot on the map and written in a striking red font.

The green dial has been decorated with an intricate flinqué-froissé guilloché pattern that resembles ocean waves. Cleverly, two shades of green on the dial clearly indicate whether the time zone is in day or night. This dazzling green combines with the white rhodium of the land mass depicting the northern hemisphere as well as the aforementioned red details to echo the colours of the UAE flag.

Although chiefly contemporary in appearance, the Star Legacy Orbis Terrarum LE 71 is in fact partially inspired by Montblanc’s elegantly understated Minerva pocket watches from the 19th and 20th centuries. Fitted with an automatic movement that is housed in a polished stainless steel case measuring 43mm, the sought-after limited edition watch comes with either a green alligator leather strap or a steel bracelet and is a stylish tribute to the UAE’s landmark birthday in 2021.

Franck Juhel, President of Montblanc Middle East, India and Africa, said it is an honour for the brand to celebrate the UAE’s 50th year. “This limited edition timepiece will not only mark time well into the future, but will become a meaningful collector’s item,” he said. “We wish the UAE continued success for the next 50 years and beyond.”
