Back for a third edition, The Italian Way Product Design Award, held in collaboration with renowned Italian architect and founder of London-based architecture practice Shiro Studio, Andrea Morgante and  Milan-based designers WOOD-SKIN®, invites designers to craft an authentic furniture piece inspired by Italian traditions.

The winner will be announced in November at Molecule restaurant in Dubai Design District and will receive a $5,000 cash prize (that’s 18,364 dhs), as well as the opportunity to collaborate with WOOD-SKIN® to create a prototype of the winning design. The winner of the award will be selected by industry leaders including Italian architect Andrea Morgante; founder of Bishop Design LLC, Paul Bishop; and Giulio Masotti of WOOD-SKIN®.

“This year, our aim is to challenge the region’s best upcoming designers to conceptualise a product that could be used in a rooftop hospitality setting,” says Morgante. “With Dubai’s stunning skylines come various rooftop venues, from lounges to restaurants, we want to see what designers can visualise to enhance the consumer rooftop experience.”

The winning design will be based on aesthetics, Italian style and innovation. “For #TheItalianWay Product Design Award 2019 we expect our designers to consider the pillars of what The Italian Way stands for: food, fashion, travel and most importantly, design,” shares Morgante.

“We’re seeking something that is more than just a functional piece, be it a chair, a drinks service product or an installation. Designers should be able to consider and translate Italian lifestyle into their designs, leave enough room for interpretation, and still be innovative.”

Entries are open until 27 October 2019 for designers living across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon.
