With a celebrity-chef restaurant or exclusive London-born bar seemingly opening daily in the city, it was a breath of fresh air when we heard that an old-school post-prohibition lounge would be opening in the H Hotel. Inspired by the supper clubs of 20s, 30s and 40s Los Angeles, Miami and New York, Phoenix Social Club promises to bring together our three favourite Ds – dining, drinking and dancing – with a mouthwatering menu to boot.
Described as ‘a place where old and new collide’, food comes sharing-style (so Dubai), but this isn’t your average nachos and pizza type place – think more fine dining without the prohibitive price tags.
Tandoori flatbreads are prided as the signature starter, served with a choice of roasted capsicum cream, Wagyu panica and burratina with a paprika truffle honey. Smaller sharing plates include strawberry and cucumber salad, chicken liver parfait, Hamachi ceviche and miso pumpkin with sweet potato. Those with an appetite can indulge in larger dishes of chicken tikka with a citrus onion salad, chargrilled octopus with yuzu kosha and miso foam, black cod with braised daikon and Wagyu striploin with eggplant, to name a few.
Phoenix Social Club
Got a sweet tooth? Well good – be sure to save room, as we’ve got it on good authority that the compressed watermelon with fresh mangosteen, white chocolate, kefir lime and basil is to die for.
The bar is stocked up to recreate a myriad of classic cocktails, so post-dinner, retire to the lounge for a drink or five and enjoy a number of the monthly rotating creations, whipped together by the team’s resident mixologists.
Flapper dresses optional.
