Although there is still no word on who will succeed Daniel Craig as James Bond, rumour has it that British actress Lashana Lynch will take on the character's secret agent 007 number in the forthcoming film.

The Daily Mail quoted a movie insider who claimed that the 25th film opens with Bond having retired and living in Jamaica. He is called back to fight a new villain.

“There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says, 'Come in 007', and in walks Lashana who is black, beautiful and a woman,” the source said. “It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007.”

So, who is the actress taking on 007?

She starred in Captain Marvel alongside Brie Larson

Lynch played fighter pilot Maria Rambeau in 2019's Captain Marvel, the best friend of Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). "It literally is just a real friendship," she told Screen Rant. "We didn't have to labour, or anything, or work really hard to create this perfect friendship on screen. We were just representing how women support each other."

She uses fashion to communicate who she is

I’m a curvy girl, so I like to roll with that instead of to push against it," she told Who What Wear. "I like to wear things that are figure-hugging because I’m very proud of my body. I’m becoming more and more comfortable with being a tall woman in heels—to not apologise for my height. That’s really important to me."

She stands up for what she believes in

Although Lynch is of Jamaican descent, she was born in Hammersmith, London. Like many Londoners, she was devastated by the news of the Grenfell fire tragedy of June 2017. In 2018, she posted a picture of herself wearing a Grenfell T-shirt, questioning why those responsible for the blaze had still not been held accountable.

She starred in Shonda Rhimes' Still Star-Crossed

In 2016, Lynch secured the lead role in US period series Still Star-Crossed, produced by the industry legend Shonda Rhimes. The show focuses on what happens following the death of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Lynch played Rosaline Capulet, Juliet's cousin, who is betrothed against her will.
