This is an essential for those looking for instant results and supple, squeaky-clean skin

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of shoppers on the third floor of Harrods is The Wellness Clinic. Serene and understated, the space is home to New York Dermatology Group London (NYDG), headed by Dr Costas Papageorgiou. BAZAAR headed down to try the NYDG HydraGenesis Facial.

Touted as ‘CrossFit session for your face’ by Dr Papageorgiou, the three-stage treatment combines hydradermabrasion (a HydraFacial), Laser Genesis and in our session, OxyGenesis, too. The beauty of treatments at NYDG London is that they are tailored to you, with your pre-treatment consultation being a chance to highlight any problem areas and skin woes for your therapist to focus on.

The Wellness Clinic at Harrods

With London’s muggy summer well underway, my already-oily and congested skin now has blemishes and enlarged pores to contend with. So, I jumped at the chance of trying this celebrity-favoured facial, which has zero downtime.

My therapist, Sophie, began by gently removing my makeup before moving onto the HydraFacial. While HydraFacials are becoming increasingly popular, teamed with the additional two steps your skin is left feeling cleaner than ever before. Comprising three stages – cleansing, exfoliating and extraction – the HydraFacial felt a little like my skin being gently vacuumed with a suction tip while various vitamins, antioxidants and skincare saviours such as hyaluronic and salicylic acid were released and rubbed into my skin before being wiped off.

Following the extraction phase of the HydraFacial, where my blackheads and blemishes were banished, it was time for Laser Genesis. Used to stimulate your skin cells to behave the way they should be, retaining elasticity and regenerating, the laser reaches 2mm below your skin’s surface to give it what was described as a ‘work out’.

The laser was run over each side of my face with a sensation perfectly described by Sophie as ‘the feeling of warm raindrops’ on my face. Be prepared for the bonier areas of your face to feel more sensitive to this, though the overall experience was mostly pain-free. My skin immediately felt tighter and the results are said to work for up to four weeks – I could get used to this!

After putting my skin through its paces, the refreshing OxyGenesis segment of the facial began. My face felt like it was being misted with cool water, though the solution actually contained botanical peptides, vitamins and other revitalising treats for your skin. The tip of the machine was then gently pressed in small pen-like strokes around my face.

My treatment concluded with 15 minutes of LED light therapy to aid with anti-aging, scarring and blemishes. I may have nodded off once or twice, which revealed just how blissful my HydraGenesis facial left me feeling.

Eager to see the results of the invigorating pamper session, I leapt up to see the results in the mirror. Though makeup-free, I felt completely confident stepping out of Harrods’ wellness sanctuary and back into the city with my blackhead-free skin looking glowing and radiant. While results can be seen after just one session, NYDG recommends booking three to begin with to truly reap the rewards of this miracle facial. They say persistence pays off, so I’m sure I’ll be back at NYDG soon for another ‘facial CrossFit session’.
