From Olympic Swimmer to Style Icon: A Look at Yusra Mardini’s Foray into Fashion

In the span of just a few years Yusra Mardini has become a legend in her own right. The Syrian-born swimmer, who was coached by her father since she was a child, achieved her dream of participating in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics as part of the first Refugee Olympic Team – and her success didn’t stop there.
Renowned for her incredible resilience and achievements as an athlete (her story was so inspiring it was made into a Netflix film, The Swimmers), she’s recently taken the fashion industry by storm; she was on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s January 2023 issue with her sister, Sara, and has gone on to work with some of the biggest names in the biz.

Yusra Mardini graced the screens of millions as she posted an Instagram ad with captivating images celebrating Prada’s commitment to sustainability with their Re-Nylon Bag. Her partnership with Prada highlights her dedication to promoting environmentally conscious fashion choices.

Casablanca
Stepping onto the catwalk for Casablanca’s A/W 23/24 show, Yusra embodied the spirit of the collection, titled “For the Peace,” which celebrates life, youth, and resilience. Her presence adds depth to the brand’s message of hope and renewal.
BOSS
Yusra made a striking appearance at Milan Fashion Week in September 2023, walking for BOSS’s show and featuring in the brand’s digital campaign.
She also previously walked for BOSS’ S/S 23 fashion show in Miami with a guest list of over 500. Her presence on the runway alongside industry icons like Naomi Campbell underscores her rising influence in the fashion world.

Burberry
Invited to witness Burberry’s A/W 23 show, Yusra Mardini’s attendance at one of the fashion calendar’s most anticipated events solidifies her status as a bona fide member of the industry.

Oris
Becoming a brand ambassador for Oris, Yusra collaborates with the company as a sustainability partner, aligning her advocacy for positive change with the brand’s ethos. Together, they champion environmental initiatives and promote unity through sports.
