UAE Announces Dhs2 Billion Fund To Repairing Rain Damaged Homes

The move comes after last week’s record-breaking rains and subsequent floods

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, presided over a crucial UAE Cabinet meeting held at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi.

Addressing the gathering, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the unprecedented recent extreme weather conditions experienced across the country. “Today, I chaired the UAE Cabinet’s meeting at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. We discussed the impacts of the recent extreme weather conditions the country experienced over the past few days. The situation was unprecedented in its intensity,” His Highness was quoted as saying in an Emirates News Agency (WAM) report.

Present at the session were esteemed dignitaries including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court; His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance; and His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Interior.

He acknowledged the swift response and concerted efforts of various entities in managing the aftermath of the weather event, with over 17,000 personnel from security, emergency, and interior entities, along with 15,000 members from local authorities, and thousands of volunteers involved in responding to over 200,000 reports.

UAE Allocates Dhs 2 Billion Fund For Repairing Rain-Damaged Homes Of Citizens: HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Highlights Response Efforts

Expressing gratitude for the leadership and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted the importance of prioritising the safety of citizens and residents.

“Thanks to the follow-up and support of my President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, life returned to normal quickly. His Highness issued his directives to conduct damages assessments, provide support for families, and immediately assess the status of the infrastructure, emphasising that the safety of citizens and residents is the top priority,” he stated.

In response to the damages suffered by citizens’ homes, the UAE Cabinet allocated Dhs 2 billion, with a ministerial committee tasked with overseeing the assessment of damages and disbursing compensations in collaboration with federal and local entities.

Furthermore, a committee was formed to evaluate infrastructure damages caused by floods and rain, chaired by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, with representatives from various federal entities and all seven Emirates.

Reflecting on the beneficial outcomes of the weather event, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, “The exceptional weather event turned out to be a blessing for us. The dams filled up, the valleys flowed with rainwater, and the underground water reserves replenished.”

“We learned significant lessons on managing heavy rains in our cities, identified areas for development, and enhanced our readiness and preparedness, making us better prepared for the future,” he added.

His Highness extended gratitude to all involved in the response efforts, including emergency and crisis centres, security and military entities, government agencies, volunteers, and the community at large, for their solidarity and cooperation in ensuring the well-being of the UAE.
