Regional and charitable organisation Alaweed Philanthropies has just become a part of the UN Women’s groundbreaking initiative, ‘Making Every Woman and Girl Count’ with the view to improving on the use of gender statistics around the world.
Through better production and use of data this flagship initiative supports a more timely and efficient implementation of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a universal roadmap adopted by world leaders in 2015 to achieve sustainable development by 2030. Alwaleed Philanthropies and UN Women will work collaboratively to gather gender statistics in Saudi Arabia for the very first time and the GCC countries through local partnerships and by mainly funding, which is aligned with 2030 vision to achieve gender equality and to empower all women and girls.
Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, the humanitarian organisation’s Secretary General has invested 2.5million US dollars (that’s almost Dhs9.2 million) into supporting the programme, alongside major governments including the UK, US and Australia.
Co-hosted by Harper’s Bazaar Arabia and Nadine Jewellery, the afternoon tea celebrated incredible women and offered the chance for philantropic guests to network in an elegant setting prior to the official conference.
During the event at the The Mansion, Riyadh, Her Royal Highness Princess Lamia bint Majed Al Saud, said, “I am delighted to join this impressive group of global champions on gender data and we look forward to contributing to UN Women’s ‘Making Every Woman and Girl Count’ programme. Our new partnership means this exemplary initiative will help bring meaningful change to how we make and measure progress in advancing the rights of women and girls. At Alwaleed Philanthropies, we strongly believe that it is only through strong and effective collaboration, that we can build a more tolerant, prosperous, and accepting world.”
